Harry Nicolaides to get a royal pardon?
February 16, 2009
Prachatai, 16 February 2009: “Australian jailed for insulting Thai monarchy may receive royal pardon” reproduces a CBC Canada report claiming that Harry Nicolaides, convicted under the draconian lèse majesté law may, after some 6 months in jail, receive a royal pardon.
An article at the Bangkok Post website, 17 February 2009: “Australian asks lese majeste pardon” states that an anonymous Bangkok Remand Centre official, stated that if the department accepted the request, it will be forwarded to the Royal Household for consideration, adding, “The process will take months.” It remains unclear whether the tight-lipped Australian government is supporting the prisoner or his family.
