Privy Council not involved in the 2006 coup
In a report in The Nation (26 March 2009: “Privy Councillors not involved in coup: Prem”), Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda states: “Please get it right, privy councillors don’t have any duties relating to this issue [2006 military coup] at all.” PPT has raised issues regarding such denials and Prem’s own role here.
According to Prem, he is not involved in politics, but still responded on a question about Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his ability to administer the country out of the current crises, Prem is reported to have said, “I cheer [Abhisit].”
In the same report, “Privy councillor Sawat Wathanakorn said yesterday the Privy Council had not paid attention to the phone-in addresses by ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, in spite of his verbal attacks. He said Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda had been admirable in acting like a soldier and disregarding Thaksin’s attacks.”
There seems to be a considerable amount of denial going on at present especially from those claiming to be uninterested and not listening to Thaksin!
