Warrant issued for Giles Ungpakorn
March 25, 2009
Reuters (25 March 2009: “Warrant issued for Thai academic who fled to London”) reports that a Thai court has issued an arrest warrant for Giles Ji Ungpakorn, who has been charged under lesé majesté laws over his book, A coup for the rich, and who left for the U.K. because he was convinced that he would not receive a fair trial in Thailand on political charges.
Explaining why the warrant was issued, Police Major-General Phongsak Jiam-orn is quoted as saying that, “The court showed that Giles ran away from fighting the case.”
