Abhisit proposes political and judicial reform

March 29, 2009

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva called for political and judicial system reforms (The Nation, 29 March 2009: “PM invites opponent to take part in reform”), saying “he will provide venues for them to air their opinions.” Abhisit has made statements that have proven to have little substance in the past, but on this occasion, he was speaking during his weekly television address to the nation, so perhaps it indicates a willingness to consider the kinds of reform mentioned by Chumpol Silapa-archa.

Saying that his opponents had a right to rally peacefully, Abhisit said the government “would listen to demands of the protesters and take up their proposals for consideration in appropriate venues.”

Meanwhile, Kasit Piromya, a former PAD speaker and current Democrat Party foreign minister, has expanded efforts to muzzle Thaksin through extradiction arrangements with China and Hong Kong and Dubai to bring him to justice in Thailand.
