For those PPT readers who haven’t read it, Bangkok Pundit has an excellent summary of recent activity regarding succession (15 June 2009:“Succession : The White Elephant in the Room”).
PPT has to admit to some bemusement regarding the continual discussion of succession. Much of it seems to be promoted by wishful thinking on the part of those who believe that an unmarried and apparently jovial Sirindhorn would be preferable to the brooding, unpredictable and womanizing Vajiralongkorn.
For PPT, it seems that Vajiralongkorn takes a tough line on lesè majesté. Rumour has it that he is opposed to any discussion of his sometimes tumultuous private life. Think of the case of Harry Nicolaides, who was kept in prison longer than any foreigner that we can remember, and who commented on the prince’s private life.
