PAD also rallies, attacks Cambodia

October 24, 2009

The Nation (24 October 2009: “Yellow shirts to protest at Cambodian Embassy next month”) reports that a handful of PAD yellow shirts also rallied briefly at the Puk Tien Beach in Cha-Am district, where the red shirts delivered their petition-letter for the ASEAN summit leaders. [Update: The Nation has a revised account of this event.]

PAD are threatening to “protest and surround the Cambodian Embassy next month unless Cambodia withdrew its troops from area adjacent to Preah Vihear Temple.” They also responded to what the Nation said were “harsh remarks by Cambodia that it would not extradite former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to Thailand.” The Nation’s yellow hue is showing here.

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that he’d welcome Thaksin to Cambodia, give him a house, make him an economic adviser and prevent his extradition to Thailand.

The PAD protesters held banners saying that Hun Sen “was not welcomed by Thai people.”

PPT imagines that the government is unlikely to put the ISA in place for the PAD demonstration, especially as they will be keen to attack Cambodia for providing Thaksin with such support, with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva warning his Cambodian counterpart.
