Updated: Actions in Bangkok
As red shirts have attempted to block police and army moving to Bangkok, there are as yet unconfirmed reports of action in Bangkok and nearby – tear gas used; explosions.
The only report we can find is a short note at The Nation on police and army troops breaking up a red shirt demonstration/road block in Prathumthani.
Update: No discussion anywhere of earlier reports of explosions or tear gas, but the Bangkok Post now has a report on the dispersal in Prathumthani. It says that e combined police and army force acted to disperse red shirts who were “blocking the highway in Bangkok to prevent police reinforcements which might try to retake Ratchaprasong rally site…”.
Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the operation at the Talad Thai Market in Klong Luang district was “was successful with no injuries reported on either side, but a dozen leading protesters were detained…”. He added that Border Patrol Police had broken a ” red shirt blockade in Phitsanulok and headed to Bangkok after a five-hour stand-off” adding that “any further blockade the force would operate as it did at Pathum Thani and clear the way.” He seemed to confirm that these police were destined for duty in Bangkok.
Sansern continued to believe that “some protesters joined the demonstration because of untrue information.”
