Thai Netizen Network update on Suwicha and Chiranuch lesè majesté cases

2 06 2009

Prachatai (2 June 2009) provides an update on these two cases:

Suwicha Thakor: After having the court extend the deadline for appealing by a month, the public prosecutor has decided not to appeal on Suwicha’s sentence (which was already remarkably heavy). Suwicha is now able to begin the process of requesting a royal pardon.

Chiranuch Premchaiporn: The Crime Suppression Division submitted the charges against Chiranuch, the director of Prachatai online to the Office of Attorney-General. She has been on bail while the OAG has processed the case. Chiranuch is scheduled to hear whether she will be prosecuted on 26 June.

Avid PPT readers will recall that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, claiming to be Thailand’s most democratic premier claimed that this whole episode was a mistake and that he was having it sorted out. If he is doing anything, he is now very quiet on the issues.
