The south and propaganda

25 08 2009

PPT has posted on ISOC propaganda in the south previously (here, here and here, for example). A couple of weeks ago, the now somewhat subdued Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya took diplomats from the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and journalists south to show them the “good work” of the government and military. Don Pathan’s account in The Nation (25 August 2009: “Peace in the South demands historical recognition”) of this visit and its context seems well worth considering, especially as the violence there is seeing a spike in recent days.
