Frightened

21 02 2010

The Nation (20 February 2010) reports that the Democrat Party is scared witless. It is stated that “Democrat Party director Natthapol Teepsuwan said he will consult Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban about seeking help from the Army to send troops to guard the head office ahead of protests by the red-shirt people.” The Democrat Party headquarters is already guarded by 100 policemen, but the director wants troops as well.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Post (20 February 2010) reports that General Boonlert Kaewprasit, a close aide to Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart (a former Democrat) has stated that the “president of Privy Council Prem Tinsulanonda is not the target of ousted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra…”. As the People’s Alliance for Democracy had previously claimed General Boonlert is claiming that Thaksin is targeting the king and monarchy.

General Boonlert believed that this target means that there “would be another round of military coup in the future. He called on the “government and the armed forces must join hands to get the country out of economic and political crises.

The Democrat Party was put into government by the military and palace and wants its praetorian guard. Given the loot they have ladled out to the men in green, surely they deserve an armed guard. And why not take Boonlert’s advice and throw aside all the democratic pretense.
