1 11 2011

Don’t think the floods stop the courts in their quest to protect the monarchy and its political regime. The Bangkok Post reports that

The Criminal Court on Tuesday rejected a request for the release on bail of lese majeste suspect Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, a core member of the June 24 Democracy Group and supporter of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

The bail request was submitted by UDD lawyer Karom Phonpornklang, who offered a title deed for a plot of land valued at 1.6 million baht in Suphan Buri as collateral.

The Criminal Court will tomorrow decide whether to grant bail for Surachai Sae Dan, another red-shirt supporter charged with lese majeste.

Both menare victims of lese majeste repression and risk many years in jail.
