Military murder

7 09 2013

A couple of days ago, Khaosod reported that the Department of Special Investigation is “pushing for further investigation on the 28 deaths which the agency believes were caused by the Thai security forces during the 2010 crackdown.”

The military has consistently denied responsibility for any deaths in this period. While such a claim is nothing but a blatant lie it is justified for the military on the basis of its continuing impunity over many decades when its major task has been repressing Thai citizens, often in the name of the monarchy.

The renewed investigation comes after “the DSI … found evidence that the military had shot these victims to death.”

It is reported that 11 of these cases were deaths at Rajadamnoen Avenue on 10 April 2010. The others are from May 2010.
