Shooter’s story

22 03 2014

Vivat Yodprasit is the “suspected shooter at Laksi intersection on the eve of the Feb 2 poll, dubbed ‘the popcorn gunman’, [has] told police he was given an M16 assault rifle from a chief guard of an anti-government group and was paid 300 baht a day to provide security for demonstrators.”

That is about as clear as it gets: Suthep Thaugsuban’s anti-democrats paid a gunman 300 baht a day and gave him a military weapon to shoot red shirts. In essence, Suthep should be facing more charges, this time for attempted murder. The chances that Suthep did not know about his security team’s activities is negligible.

Vivat has said that “he concealed his weapon in a large popcorn sack” both to “conceal the M16 and to collect spent bullet shells…”.

The suspect was hired by the “chief of the PDRC’s guard team at the Chaeng Watthana rally site.” He became a member of the “Phra Ong Dam” (or Black Prince) group of guards. He was hidden in the Surat Thani house of the same chief.

In the face of all this evidence, the anti-democrat spokesman could only bleat that arresting Vivat was somehow an act of political bias.
