Tom Dundee charged with lese majeste

9 07 2014

Tom DundeePrachatai reports that singer and red shirt activist Tom Dundee (Thanat Thanawatcharanon) has been charged with lese majeste.

The police charged him with lese majeste and offences under Computer Crimes Act.  Some 20 military and police officers arrested Tom on Wednesday. The charges apparently relate to “his speech at two red-shirt rallies, held by Kotee Red Guard, in November 2013, and the video of his speeches was uploaded to Youtube.”

Tom was “earlier charged with defying the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) [the junta] order for not reporting himself with the military after summoned. He was then released on bail.”

In 2010, the Network of Voluntary Citizen to Protect the Monarchy on Facebook pressured the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to prosecute Tom for his speech at a red-shirt rally in Ratchaburi province. As far as PPT is aware, that accusation was not taken to a charge.
