Taxi driver sentenced for lese majeste

14 08 2014

A taxi driver who debated inequality in Thailand with what turned out to be a spineless royalist and unnamed passenger has been sentenced in quick time on lese majeste charges. He was arrested only in June after the military dictatorship came to power and began its regime of enhanced lese majeste repression.

Prachatai reports that on Thursday the Criminal Court found taxi driver Yuthasak guilty of lese majeste based on the passenger’s surreptitious recording of the conversation and sentenced him to two years and six months in jail.

The 43-year-old taxi driver pleaded guilty.
