All those watches

5 01 2018

The tremendous public pressure for the Deputy Dictator to be properly investigated for his luxury horological stash has forced the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to call in Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and “four unnamed people” for questioning “about [some of] Prawit’s collection of luxury accessories.”

Not Prawit’s watches

General Prawit has “15 days to attend a meeting and explain how he came to possess the large diamond ring he wore at a Cabinet meeting last month…”. From the report we understand that this “explanation” must include one or more of his watches but the NACC declined to say the number of watches Prawit noted in his written “explanation.” The NACC reckons the case should be resolved in a matter of weeks.

The total number of watches is now reported to be 15, and while The Nation says the value is “more than Bt17 million,” given that the value was already put at 17 million when 11 watches had been identified, we think the current value is likely between 20 and 25 million baht.
