It might be too early to call it over for the military dictatorship, and we may be too quick in getting out our hammer and nails for the junta’s coffin, but we do have a feeling that the junta is cornered and likely to be killed off. How that happens and how much resistance these nasty military fascists decide to put up is still unclear, but The Dictator seems pretty much ready to be knocked off his perch.
General Prayuth Chan-ocha is reported by the Bangkok Post as saying “he is non-committal on whether the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) [the junta] will step down from power after the February 2019 general election.” Speaking to military cadets he added that the junta “will end its mission according to the roadmap, he did not specify when…”.
The roadmap is a map with no end, no edges and no roads that terminate anywhere. Its the road to nowhere other than military domination. And we have the feeling that the support for the junta is so thin that its has to go, whether it goes quietly or is pushed.
The Dictator defends his roadmap, saying “I haven’t delayed anything…”. We guess he means not in 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018. Lying is standard junta practice and we can expect more of it. Like when he says: “… my promise remains unchanged … I will do my best and everything will proceed according to the roadmap.”
He “offers” more dictatorship: “… some groups want the same old things to come back. So, make a choice between me or a return to old things…”.
More dictatorship means “the same old things to come back.” The same old 20th century tactics:
…[N]ational police chief Chakthip Chaijinda yesterday said he has ordered a probe into the finances behind recent demonstrations held by anti-government elements such as the New Democracy Movement which is calling for an early election. Their voices join that of the People Go Network (PGN), an umbrella group of activists and academics which launched a 450km civic march from Pathum Thani to Khon Kaen last week.
Expect more military boots on the street.
