Good news goes bad

In an earlier post, PPT noted the good news that some of the detained protesters had been released.

Now the (expected) bad news. Eleven members of the anti-regime movement have had to report to police “to acknowledge charges against related to the protests at Thammasat University and Sanam Luang on September 19th and 20th.”

While one of those charged, Atthaphol Buapat, has “told the media that none of them are concerned about the charges filed against them and that they will carry on with their protests until their demands are met,” what is being seen is a strategy to use the judicial system to wear down the protesters.

According to “Sasinan Thamnitthinan, a lawyer of the Thailand Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR), said that 17 protest leaders and protesters are wanted by police, but only eleven of them showed up today to acknowledge the charges.”
