Kathawut Bunpitak

112On 18 November 2014, A military court convicted Kathawut Bunpitak, a red-shirt host of a political podcast programme to 10 years in jail for lese majeste.

As expected in lese majeste cases, the defendant pleaded guilty, meaning that the court reduced the sentence to five years.

Kathawut was the host of a political podcast program called Kathawut Nainaemak. He was summoned by the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order and reported on 3 June. He was detained for seven days. He was then charged with lese majeste over his program. He was detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison.

No bail was ever granted, and Kathawut cannot appeal. Cases tried by the military court under martial law have no right of appeal.
