Praphat Darasawang

112Praphat Darasawang is a 41 year-old businessman accused of defaming the king on Facebook and is thus accused of lese majeste.

Newspapers report that the Army in Chiang Mai filed a police complaint on 16 December 2014, accusing the businessman of lese majeste.

ASTV/Manager implied that internet vigilantes tracked Praphat as a red shirt supporter, stating that “the problematic post attracted several comments, adding that the there have been several posts in the same fashion before but were not obvious lese majeste.”

Remarkably, it was later reported that Praphat is accused of disagreeing with the king’s comparison of his dog to people.

Media accounts of Praphat’s case:

Prachatai, 19 September 2014: “Lese majeste Chiang Rai FB post involves King’s favorite dog Tongdaeng

Prachatai, 18 December 2014: “Army files lese majeste complaint against Chiang Rai FB user

ASTV ผู้จัดการ, 17 December 2014: “ทหารแจ้งจับนักธุรกิจหนุ่มเชียงของผิด ม.112 โพสต์เฟซฯ หมิ่น-คนแชร์ต่อเพียบ

[…] The royal woofers are apparently very significant in a society that enforces ultra-royalism. For more commentary on doggy nonsense and ultra-royalism, see this post from 2009. This indicates that the madness associated with royal dogs has been afflicting royal posterior polishers for a considerable time. And, don’t forget the bizarre Woody incident with another royal tail wagger. There was even a report that Thong Daeng has been implicated in a lese majeste case! […]
