As we do as we take a break from posting daily, PPT has been looking at academic journals to see what is being written on politics, economy, and society in Thailand over the last year or so. Doing this gives a bit of a feel for what the academic world is thinking about Thailand. Again, there are thin pickings but a couple of gems.
Some papers are free to download while others are behind a paywall. We have always found authors generous in providing copies if they are contacted.
Here’s some of what we found:
Sirisak Laochankham, Peerasit Kamnuansilpa, and Allen Hicken, “The Evolution and Institutionalisation of Business–Government Relations: Public–Private Partnerships in Khon Kaen, Thailand“
Asian Studies Review
Puangchon Unchanam, “No Royal Road: Urban Transportation, Capitalist Development, and Monarchy in Thailand“
Rosalia Sciortino, Vinissa Kattiya-aree, “The Social Sciences in Thailand’s COVID-19 Response: A Crucial Counterpoise from the Margins of Governance”
Asian International Studies Review
Paul Chambers, “Assessing the Political Clout of Thailand’s “Monarchized” Military in 2023“
Journal of Southeast Asian Studies
Trude Renwick and Bronwyn Isaacs, “Power and ritual in the city: Mourning and political juncture at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang“
Journal of Contemporary Asia
Khorapin Phuaphansawat, “Zombie Apocalypse and the Crisis of Global Capitalism: Class, Precarious Work, and Environment“
