Chambers 112 case and making bail

9 04 2025

The Bangkok Post reports that “Thai immigration authorities have revoked the visa of detained American academic Paul Chambers…”.

It said that his lawyers were “preparing to appeal the Immigration Bureau’s order within the next 48 hours…”.

Thai Lawyers for Human Rights also said that “police had also obtained a warrant to search Mr Chambers’ office at Naresuan University in Phitsanulok, where he is a lecturer and special adviser on international affairs.” The police will be seeking more substantial “evidence” than the flimsy material they have used based on the Army’s complaint against Chambers.

On social media, it was reported that Chambers appeal for bail on the lese majeste and computer crimes charges had been successful but that because of his immigration status, he remained in jail. However, Thai Enquirer’s Facebook page later reported that he was also granted a temporary release from Immigration detention to allow for his appeal on Thursday.
