Matichon reports that Anchan Preelerd is scheduled to be released after almost 8 years in prison while detained pre-trial and then following a 112 conviction.
The report cites Thai Lawyers for Human Rights who have revealed that the now 69 year-old, sentenced to 87 years for lese majeste, reduced by half, would be pardoned.
She was one of 14 arrested for audio clips from Banpot, underground radio host. The clips were uploaded from 12 November 2014 to 24 January 2015.
After a long-delayed trial, Anchan was finally sentenced on 19 January 2021, almost six years after her arrest. Anchan’s mammoth sentence was reduced because she finally agreed to plead guilty because she had already spent three years and 281 days in prison pending her trial. The “reduced” sentence was 43 years and 6 months, said to be the longest sentence ever under Article 112.
Update: Prachatai has now reported on this case. It adds:
Anchan became eligible for early release under a Royal Pardon Decree issued on 29 July 2025. In a letter she wrote to the Freedom Bridge project, Anchan said that her sentence was reduced by a third under a Royal Pardon Decree issued in July 2020. Her sentence was reduced again by half in July 2021, and again by a quarter in the latest Decree. The reduction brought her remaining sentence to 2 years, 7 months, and 20 days, which made her eligible for release.
She is due for release on 27 August 2025.
