Khaosod reports that the Phnom Penh Municipal Court has ended a (non-) investigation into the 2020 disappearance of Thai political activist Wanchalerm Satsaksit.
The report comes from his long-suffering family and their legal representatives who have, for all those years, sought to find out what happened to Wanchalerm.
He’s assumed to have been subject to enforced disappearance, probably by Thai operatives working with the Cambodian regime, to silence a critic of General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his regime and of the monarchy. Some believe the palace may have been involved.
Wanchalerm was abducted from a Phnom Penh street “in broad daylight on June 4, 2020. Witnesses and CCTV footage showed armed men forcing him into a black van outside his condominium…”.
The Cambodian court’s investigation produced nothing, hence a deliberate (non-) investigation.
The Court’s “order, signed by an investigating judge on Dec. 17, marks the first formal update in the case since late 2020.” No Thai government has done anything.
His family says: “The case might be closed, but he will not be forgotten…”.
