Thaksin’s 112 appeal

31 12 2025

Thai Examiner reports that Winyat Chatmontri, Thaksin Shinawatra’s lawyer, revealed that he has sent a strong letter to Attorney General Itthiporn Kaewthip challenging the appeal against Thaksin’s August acquittal on a lese majeste charge, claiming it may be unlawful.

Winyat’s letter requested fairness and challenged the “Attorney General’s authority to override the committee.”

At the same time, he pointed to “possible political interference,” noting that the Attorney General’s daughter,  Kanyaporn Kaewthip is a Bhum Jai Thai Party candidate in the upcoming General Election.A coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not.

As might be expected Attorney General Itthiporn “strenuously denied any connection, insisting his daughter’s actions are separate from the Office of the Attorney-General…”. Well, maybe, but the stain that continues to darken over the justice system is darker still.

Winyat’s letter notes that Itthiporn’s “appeal order came shortly before news broke that the Attorney General’s daughter registered as a Bhumjaithai Party candidate. Consequently, public attention focused on potential political influence. Mr. Winyat highlighted that his statements concern procedural adherence, not political opinion.”

The lawyer added that “his office submitted formal requests for documents and clarifications. These include committee resolutions, appeal summons and the rationale behind ignoring the committee’s decision…. He noted that reviewing these documents is essential to determine if unilateral action was taken. Furthermore, the review will establish whether Section 20 of the Criminal Procedure Code was correctly applied.”

The implication is that the Attorney General may be in cahoots with the gangster party.
