Over the past month or so PPT has posted on Thailand’s slide on various scales that measure perceptions of corruption and the Freedom in the World Index. Now Reporters Without Borders has released its 2026 World Press Freedom Index, showing Thailand slipping further.
Prachatai tells us that Thailand slipped seven places below its 2025 ranking, and is now rated just above Chad as is ranked as “difficult” for journalists.
RSF’s legal indicator that “evaluates the legislative and regulatory environment for journalists (including the level of censorship, the ability to protect sources and the level of impunity for violence against journalists)” has Thailand ranked 112th, between Congo and Angola.
