112 acquittal

In among all of the recent 112 convictions, there are occasional acquittals. Prachatai records another of these, from 29 April 2026, when the Phatthalung Provincial Court dismissed a case against Jiradee (pseudonym).

In February 2023, Jiradee received a summons from the Khuan Khanun police and in March 2023 she met the investigator, with the police questioning her as a witness in a case that stemmed from social media posts and messages in September 2022.. Following that, there was no further summons or contact from the police. Jiradee did not know that the court had requested an arrest warrant on a 112 charge.

On 27 March 2025, Jiradee, then a 35-year-old, was arrested by police officers from the Crime Suppression Division at her Bangkok workplace on Article 112 charges. The arrest was made under a warrant issued by the Phatthalung Provincial Court on 28 August 2023 and followed yet another complaint from a member of an ultra-royalist vigilante group filed with the Khuan Khanun Police Station. Jiradee was taken to Phatthalung to be charged, before being granted her bail.

The complaint against her was filed by stooge Songchai Niamhom, leader of the ultra-royalist King Protection Group and a known serial 112 complainant responsible for at least 19 112 and sedition complaints. Stooger Songchai “claimed that, in September 2022, he saw a conversation on Twitter about good and bad people, which mentioned King Vajiralongkorn and Thaksin Shinawatra, and that one of the accounts involved belonged to Jiradee.”

Interestingly, the Phatthalung Provincial Court dismissed the case “because the prosecution could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that she used the Twitter account in question. It noted that the only evidence presented were the testimony and documents compiled by the accuser, with no other evidence or eyewitness linking Jiradee to the account. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) was also unable to identify the user.”

Such cases often lead to appeals by the prosecutors. Let’s see….
